Seven Happiness Essentials
- Smile and the world will smile back at you. After I read one of the Dalai Lama’s books which espoused that kindness was the key to happiness, I decided to test drive his theory on a trip to New York City. I spoke to everyone in a kind engaging way and viola New Yorkers were the friendliest people on the planet. My spirits were high and I had a fabulous time.
- Exercise. I know this is a predictable one but essential nonetheless. Make it fun. Learn something new. Tai Chi or Zumba. Go for a walk in the sunshine. Take a hike. Learn to ride a horse. Go to yoga. Take up snowboarding. Get out there and live!
- The 5 to 1 rule that therapist claim will determine whether a relationship will survive pertains to individual too. You must say 5 positive things to yourself for each negative one. What is more important than a positive relationship with yourself?
- Write down your goals. Just the simple act of having intentions will move you in a positive direction. I have mine posted right next to my computer so I can read them everyday.
- Eat right. Food can make you feel good or bad. Good healthy fresh veggies give me energy. Starches bring me down. Feed yourself for happiness.
- Live within your means but be generous. Money trouble is too stressful! Help those that are less fortunate. It makes me feel good to make a difference for someone else.
- Travel and educate yourself. My Mother was always happy because she was a curious person who was interested and interesting.
